Issue number 5 of Portus, the magazine of Rete 2001, dedicated specifically to the theme of the preservation of port heritages, is now available. Contributions to this subject include the introductory article by Louis Bergeron entitled Patrimoine des ports, patrimoine de l'industrie: de l'ambiguité à l'analogie and the following specific contributions: by Françoise Péron on the cases of the French ports of Dunkerque, Le Havre and Brest; an article by Juan Francisco Rebollo Lledò on the policies of protection and conservation of Spanish lighthouses; articles by Ana M.Berenjeno and Manuel Matoses Rebollo about Isla Verde in the bay of Algeciras; and finally the report by Lluìs Badia i Chancho on the protection of the Port's cultural heritage in Tarragona relative to the Muelle de Costa. On the more general theme of the relationship between the city and the port, Portus offers an article by poet Todd Temkin about the cultural and economic re-awakening of the port of Valparaiso in Chile while Alejandro Luis Grindlay Moreno develops the theme of the centrality of port structures in the Andalusian Mediterranean. Finally a contribution from Japan, by Masao Tanaka, about the complex process of reconstruction in the port of Kobe, after the disastrous earthquake in 1995. The analysis of the application of the law regarding port reform in Europe, initiated in Portus 4/2002,with the article by José Luis Estrada on the situation in Spain, continues in this issue with the evaluation of the Italian situation illustrated by Rosario Pavia in his article The planning of Italian port areas.
